Morning everyone! I know I didn’t do a proper introduction on this blog so I thought this would be the perfect time to do the Book Blog Newbie Tag! I wasn’t tagged by anyone but I saw this over on Books For A Hufflepuff’s blog, so I thought I’d give it a bash! A little bit of context, I suppose, before we start! I’m Althea, I’m 21 and I’m from Scotland! I’m currently in the last semester of my degree and I’m studying interpreting and translating with French and Spanish, and I have the equivalent of HSK2 Mandarin too!! Without any further ado, here’s the tag!
♡ Why did you start this blog?
I kinda touched upon this in my first post, but I wrote a blog years and years ago and I really wanted to give it another go! I’ve wanted to talk about books for a while and I’d eventually love to do a Booktube channel but I still feel a tad self conscious about it, especially since I don’t have anywhere that’s really appropriate to film! But I really love books and I don’t feel like I have anywhere really to talk about them in my day-to-day life so here we are!
♡ What are the fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?
Honestly, I’ve not really worked out my niche yet, but I really hope to focus on shining a light on some f/f books that don’t really get as much love as they really should! As a lesbian, growing up I didn’t really see myself represented in books, and we’ve come a long way since then, but f/f books are still not getting as much hype as m/m books are (and especially not as much as m/f books), and I want to help with that! I’d also love to do the same with books with trans rep but unfortunately I haven’t read as many of them as I’d like to yet!
♡ What are you most excited for about this new blog?
Sharing how much I love books with other people who also love books as much as I do!
♡ Why do you love reading?
For me I’ve always seen it as an escape from everyday life! I struggle from really bad mental health conditions alongside all the stress from uni, and it’s just nice to get away somewhere for a while!
♡ What book / series got you into reading?
I’ve always loved reading! When I was in primary 1 (age 5) I was put in a primary 3 (age 7) reading group at school – I was one of those kids! But I think my real love for reading started when I was around 10/11 and I had to read The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke for school. In the time we had to read it once I read it twice, I was that obsessed! Never before had a book captivated me so much! We watched the film in class too and I will always have a strong love for that time in my heart! As for the series, I think it would have to be The Confessions of Georgia Nicholson series by Louise Rennison. When I was little I was notorious for reading series out of order (I’m looking at you Harry Potter) and I think I started with something like the 8th book in the series! Although this series does not stand up to the test of time I also look back fondly on it (and the film is still hilarious!).
♡ What questions would you ask your favourite authors?
Oooh this is a tough one! I did once ask George R.R. Martin about how he chooses names for his characters (yes, I’ve met George R.R. Martin!) and I think it’s so nerve wracking asking authors questions. I would ask Samantha Shannon if everything works out well for Ead and Sabran and if we’ll ever get to see Dani again (also, is she gay???!). I would ask Erin Morgenstern to please write my biography!! I would ask Hiromi Kawakami to please write a book about two women falling in love! And I don’t even know what I’d ask David Mitchell except please don’t stop writing!!!
♡ What challenges do you think starting a blog will be the hardest to overcome?
Trying to come up with new and interesting content and also trying to keep the blog up while I have so much other work for uni to do!
♡ When did you start reading?
Like I said earlier, I’ve been reading my whole life, but I think I properly started reading the way I do now when I was about 11 years old, when I started reading Twilight and Harry Potter!
♡ Where do you read?
I read in my bed, I read on the train, I listen to audiobooks on the bus to uni, I read at my kitchen table (not the comfiest but in close proximity to hot drinks!) and I read in the living room (but with headphones on so I don’t get distracted by the TV!).
♡ What kind of books do you like to read?
I mostly read fantasy! I love fantasy! I read lgbt fiction (no matter the genre)! I read sci-fi sometimes and historical fiction when I can find books that really interest me! I read adult literary fiction and non fiction (but I’m very picky with the latter)! I’m not a huge reader of classics, contemporary or thriller/mystery books unless I find one that really intrigues me!
I hope this gave you a better idea of me and the kind of books I like to read! Until next time!
